Why do I have to pay for an empty unit?
Because someone has to look after it, keep things in repair,
make sure it has not been damaged by leaks, visiting real estate agents and even
crack addicts setting up housekeeping (we've actually had that happen).
Also, the make-ready work for a new tenancy is usually
performed during the period between the lease signing and move-in date. Often
tenants will demand that certain repairs or upgrades be performed prior to
occupancy. Obviously someone has to be in charge.
