| The City of Miami owes you money! Here's the short version: If you owned any real estate in the City of Miami (not Miami Beach, unincorporated Dade etc.) anytime between 1998 and 2007 you got charged some "fees" for fire protection. "Fees" is newspeak for a tax as we all know when we pay them. Well...apparently the City of Miami admits they were overcharging helpless taxpayers for a decade and is ready to cough up a refund...but... yes, here's the "but": you must fill out a form. The money to pay these claims is being handled by a Settlement Administrator. They mailed out the forms to owners they identified but I know there's lots of you out there they missed. After all, many Miami property owners don't think to update the county on their mailing address, especially if their mortgage lender pays the tax bills from escrow. But not only are we looking out for you, we're going to make your lives easier as a courtesy. Pick one of the links below: 1. This link will take you to the Settlement Administrator's web site so you can read all the fine print and, if you need it, download a copy of the Claim Form you need to submit for each property. 2. This link is even cooler: it will take you to a customized version of that form that we created for you and it's fully interactive: you can type in all your information right on-line. To use the check boxes, just click in them. The only field you can't enter is the one for "Total Amount" since we've fixed it up to calculate the total of the individual yearly amounts for you and add it all up. A real labor saver, especially for owners who have multiple units or buildings. So after reading up, use the link below to get your interactive claim form: (Interactive claim form will open in new window) |
