A WILL PROBATED AT THE BRIDGE CLUB
SOURCE: RECER EXPERIENCE
In Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, an 87-year-old lady came in for personal estate planning. She wanted to make some revisions in her plan.
"I lived most of my life in Cleveland, Ohio," she began.
"When I was in my sixties, my dear husband died," she continued. "Some time later, at a college reunion in Massachusetts, I met one of my friends from college days. His wife had died. After some time, we decided to marry; so, I moved here to Virginia and we married when I was 70.
"We had a good marriage for our ten years together before he died.
"But, I was shocked to learn that one of the bridge club members went down to the county court house and reviewed my husband's estate and brought all the details back to the bridge club. For about two years, our financial affairs were the main subject of the gossip at the bridge club."
Concluding her story, she said, "My husband's estate was probated at the local bridge club."
As epilogue, she pointedly stated, "Mr. Recer, tell everybody to avoid probate."
